India
Capital of empires and burial of sultans, Delhi was the final resting place of my Afghanistan posting and an unbroken love. Amongst arched tombs and ruined minarets we found coloured shades and shapes and orbited each other like the sun and moon.
We walked in Lodi gardens and ate a Mughal feast at Olive’s under the shadow of Qutb Minar. We looked out from the Red Fort and took afternoon swims at the Imperial. We sipped cocktails at the 1911, smoked hookah pipes in Khan Market and bought jewellery at the Silver Lotus. In the small hours of our fifth night, your orbit changed and our light was eclipsed.
